We've been hearing about how the IRS gave extra scrutiny to tea-party groups applying for tax exempt status... and among those getting scrutiny - was the albuquerque tea party group... the IRS in late 2011 requested hundreds of pages of additional documentation from the albuquerque group... and the group is still waiting for a decision on its application. The group first applied for tax-exempt status in 2009.
A lot of people turned out to a public hearing yesterday before the taos county commission to hear about the family dollar retail store project for el prado, and to speak out against it... and ultimately, the taos county commission decided to stop the development of the store. THe taos county planning commission signed off on the project in february, but a group of el prado residents appealed that call. Residents were opposed to the design of the building and the retailer's business model. Tennessee-based developer the hutton company wanted to build an 83-hundred square foot building for the family dollar.
The votes are in - in the latest election for the kit carson cooperative board of trustees... The election on tuesday was for district 1... david torres and manuel medina kept their seats... they had two challengers, andres vargas and rick chavez... but torres and medina came out on top. Torres received 707 votes... medina got 684. Vargas came up with 619 votes, and Chavez totaled 272.
